The ability to say NO was arguably Steve Job’s greatest skill. Focusing is not about saying YES, but “NO”. Here are 3 strategies to explore, eliminate and execute what’s nonessential.
Explore and Evaluate
When we’re self-sufficient, we’re faced with a variety of decisions to make on a daily basis.
Parties, movies, meetups, and meetings, to name a few.
In the midst of the noise, you must determine what is vital and beneficial to you.
Instead of asking, “Is there a chance this option is useful in the future?”
You ask more disciplined, tough questions: “Do this really help me in the long run?”
If the answer is not, then you know it is a candidate for elimination.
Apple suffered for several years there were people that were going off in 18 different directions doing arguably interesting things in each one of them.
Jobs also discovered that Apple had been producing multiple versions of the same product to satisfy requests from retailers.
Eliminate
Many of us say YES to things because we are eager to please and make a difference.
